I would definitely agree that even if CIR comes back it has lot of negative things for people who are comming legally like us. We need to think of a different strategy which does not require a legislation which brings lot of attention against us. I can personally say that I will atleast add 10 more members with recurring contributions in a short time. Right now I will double or triple by monthly recurring contributions. I do agree with the core members that we do need lot of money now to lobby. There are are communities which I don't want to say publicly - even though there are in small numbers they have laws passed in favour of them. It is very simple - we need the MONEY POWER

That said, from what I have been reading on talk radio shows, people are disappointed in general with the GOP - even with the pro amnesty position adopted by Pres. Bush, McCain, Specter, etc - and therefore want to give them a bad time. I don't think that was an endorsement for amnesty at all.

First thanks to those who put there first hand experience in this thread, it made me think again. And now I am deciding to cross the border and go north, after 9+ years in US on H1b.
Could someone please refer a Do-it-yourself kit that they have used and/or immigration consultant?
I contacted one consultant, they email almost every week and when I called/emailed them saying I am ready to pursue there has been no response from other side yet.
It will be great help for me if you could refer a kit or a consultant.
Looking forward to join H1->Canada community :D

I am trying to donate $50 but every time I go through the "Donate" link it takes me to paypal site, where it says that the transaction could not be completed.

Can I simply send the money to donations@immigrationvoice.org? The last time I contributed using paypal this was the email address that the money was sent to, the business member id was 878.

I have flown most domestic airlines in this country on really cheap fares/deals and had good experiences overall.

Its kind of confusing to make a one time donation.. and there should be two more options of $25 and $50 for one time contribution....

I think we should follow Hillary and Obama's grassroot campaign, whereby asking for smaller amount and that way make people more willing to contribute in smaller amounts...

Hi All,
I got a notice from uscis on sept 24th stating that my 485 has been withdrawn as my previous employer withdrew my 140. I filed in july 2007 , and ported to a new job in April 2008. I filed an MTR on 24th Sept, but the status of the MTR is still received and pending. Its going to be 180 days since my 485 has been withdrawn on march 9th. And my lawyer is saying that i have to leave this country if we dont get the MTR accepted before 180 days.
Gurus could you please suggest some ideas on all possible steps that can be taken..

I recently talked with my lawyer and also took consulting (paid $$$ for hourly consulting) with another lawyer as I am going thru the same route. Both the attorney mentioned there was no problem doing ac21 for H1 while AOS was pending for > 180 days and 140 approved .

But NORCAL did collect 92 over the last weekend. I collected 40 of those (takes me to 197), the reason to mention this is, it is way too easy for anyone to do this, and people better had strong reasons to not do it!

We have to come up with a request letter addressing to DHS secretary and I am pretty sure It can be done as part of admin fix.
It will bring lot of relief for most of the people whose PD's are after May/June 2007..
I know that its already on IV agenda, but looking at the complexity involved for H1 extensions/transfers/layoffs (especially these days) we cannot wait any longer. I would suggest keeping this particular request separate and especially people who have PD's after May/June 2007 should participate actively.

I requested for the meeting close to weekend. It turned out some other new chapters were also in the same boat. Core put us together in the same call, which helped, as our issues are more or less the same. Timing was inconvenient for cagedcactus due to personal reasons. Yet he participated (which we should appreciate). Some veterans also nearly-missed the call as everything got finalized a few hours before the call.
Regarding nearby states, we can try to accomodate Indiana (IN) and Ohio (OH), and my be Wisconsin (WI), the states that border Michigan, that is if they already don't have an active chapter.
