A lot of us are busy getting our questions answered for filing our I-485. It is a sincere request to all members to please call ALL 100 Senators expressing your opposition to Menendez amendment SA#1317. This is an extremely important Action Item and it is time sensitive matter. Every voice and every call counts. We have all asked/answered many questions about the recent I-485 filing wave and we may have more unanswered questions that we would like to be answered right now. You have a great plan, come to US on H1 and within 6 months get EAD and you are free from H1b crackdown by jumping to EAD. You think USCIS, Grasley, sanders, and anti eb folks are a bunch of idiots, they will send you and me packing with the same rfe they are hitting h1 folks with if everybody gets to pre file AOS and get EAD. that is why you need to strengthen ac21 by removing same\semilar job condition and other potential h1 like rfe's, otherwise you will drag us down along with you and turn ead into h1.
How tough it is to get PERM approval nowadays with the economy being what it is. Previously we had some reasonable times, but now every application is being scrutinized closely. It's not as easy as 6 months after landing in the US to get PERM approval and be able to file for EAD.

And the worst thing is they approve it from the date tey approve it to 1 year after..My EAD which was expiring on 2th Sep'2008 was approved until Jun 20th 2009. Basically I got a 9 months extension...What a plan...

You came here 6 years ago and applied for your GC only in 2010. Didnt you find an employer who would file one for you. And you also know if your GC gets screwed for some reason, then you are out of the US also.

Logiclife's post may be a little strong in words. But it wasn't done with any ill-will toward anyone. Please remember it was borne out of frustrations borne out of some volunteers playing hokey at important IV events after RSVPing to attend and volunteer.
Naturally the organizer felt frustrated at the unexpectedly low-level participation at a very important event, for which significant personal sacrifice was done.
A word of advice to everyone - Do NOT volunteer to anything unless you are 100% sure you'll be doing it. Don't volunteer 'spur of the moment' to backtrack later. It's a rude and unprofessional conduct. We are all highly-skilled professionals here, right?
Take your time ( I mean weeks, a month or two, not 10-12 months of years !), become convinced about the IV cause. If you believe in it volunteer with full heart and conviction. And once you do, keep your words and promises. Don't make empty promises that aren't kept. It creates a very bad impression about you as a person. Not everyone will publish it here, but you'll be marked off as 'all talk, no action' from that point onwards.

There was a Telecon held yesterday night ( 9:00 pm - 10:30 pm) on establishment of new state chapters. Some core members as well as some veteran State Chapter leaders participated along with us greenhorns (newbies). Me, Chintu25 and CagedCactus participated from Michigan. Regretfully since it was a last moment decision , more members couldn't be invited to participate.
I was active in the Telecon almost to the last (I hope). It was highly educative and informational to listen to the IV Core perspective on State Chapters. Veterans also pitched in with their experience in organizing their chapters (some super secret recipes were revealed :)). Some chapter leaders for new chapters also introduced some really great ideas. To the end, I started bombarding the core with lots of questions, and they were patient in answering all of those ( b/n 10-10:30 pm!).
Unfortunately these matters cannot be discussed in the public forum, here, as we are monitored by Anti-Immigrants. Ditto for E-mails and PMs, as we have no way of verifying the authenticity of the other person. So please don't feel offended if your PMs and E-mail inquiries remain unanswered!
ONLY way to get acquainted with the 'inside news' is to participate in the 10/20 meeting, details of which are published below. Be there if you wish to remain in the know.

A lot of people continue to debate with each other, accuse IV, say all kinds of nasty things that makes us sometimes question why we are working so hard for this cause. Our own people can be our worst enemies. But when you read the stories of harship, struggle and problems faced by members within our community you feel the need to work harder and give your best to this effort. It is a waste of our time and energy to douse fires everyday. There is strength in unity and collective effort.
While we are busy amongst ourselves, anti-immigrats are having party time seeing our state of affairs and they are working overtime to make us unsuccessful. They visited our forum today and saw the article published by our member in media and went to its site and trashed the member of our community. I feel we must try to protect each and every member of our community and this organization in order to bring everyone closer and feel comforted in the outside world where we have enough anti-immigrants hellbent on defeating us.
More than 7 hours have passed and not a single member has written a note opposing the views of the anti-immigrant group that works against us. The reason for not taking part in anything outside this forum is very clear. It is because we are more worried about getting updates, where $20 are going, criticising our own community members and sometimes criticising IV.
Do go here and post some hard hitting arguements to shut up Kim Berry

When I said that there should be one Item in IV agenda to Ban Porting, everyone got mad.
I still say that they should be allowed to port but should go back in line. they are disturbing the balance. I am not against them, if they were EB2 candidates why they didnt file on EB2 category at first, if now they think they are qualified then they should start new process.
BTW. they will create a big retrogression for EB2 then EB2 people have to port to EB3

But if we raise our voice against porting, they will raise theirs with double the intensity against spillovers. So I dont think we should throw stones on their houses, when ours are made of glass. Moreoever if we see the statistics, there is a HUGE # of EB2 applicants in 2007 onwards I think. Unless we all act together, its not going anywhere.
I know many cases where newer applicants applied in EB2 and were much lesser in hierarchy than their bosses who are in EB3 and waiting. I think we must respect that, and more importantly as soon as raise our voice, they will not keep quite, right. You would also not keep quite if in their shoes.
Best will be if IV comes up with some programs to reduce this backlogs.

Members, it will be a big help if we just follow the small steps IV has outlined. Big ideas are great but lets start with the easy things first.
December Visa bulletin is obviously frustrating for all of us. After the recent accomplishments in July visa bulletin and the tons of approvals that we saw after that, we hoped that everything will be alright.
But that did not happen. Some of us in the community were taken by surprise, but this was expected. Afterall there are only 140K greencards available every year. EB2 for India and China is already used up for the quarter. EB3 is badly retrogressed for everyone.
Believe me, it will not get any better. It will get worse with time if there is no immigration reform.
IV can only do what its members empower it to do. If members want us to be just a site for question and answers for individual visa problems we can stay like that. If members want us to come together and do a rally in DC, we will help organize it. We did a rally in DC on Sept 18 and made great progress. However we cannot just sit back and admire one effort. We need to continue it and capitalize on it.
Now is the time for everyone to decide if they want a greencard. If you need a greencard, and want to do something about it, then you must join this effort and help yourself by helping everyone.
Our Plans
Our next hope is year end bills. If we can get some provisions in those bills we can certainly look forward to a happy new year with fast movement of visa dates. Next year is an election year and it will become much tougher for any immigration bill to pass. We will need to make super extra push next year for something to happen. So the time to act is NOW.

3) Consider yourself part of something big. What we are doing is something big. We have already done what was difficult to think when this organization was started. Today we have become a big force and a voice of legal high skilled community. Each one of you defines what IV is. Your posts, your talks with media, your talks with your friends about IV, your talks with your employer about immigration problems, your time and effort you put in for IV defines who we are. Each one of you is important for the success of this effort. Each one of us is a voice and we have converged our energies to make a strong voice. Please consider yourself an integral part of IV and actively participate in the effort.
